R r for Reuse & Recycle

Here is another of my collections. I produced reusable, durable, and comfortable market bags from recycled heavy duty feed sacks. I love the idea of taking an object that once carried goods and altering it to carry food once again, but in a new context. These bags were hand dyed using natural dyes to achieve a linen color, then screen printed, appliquéd, and hand embroidered. Each bag is lined with matching commercial fabric, a reproduction of a traditional feed sack floral. Last night my sister and I walked to the grocery store with a market bag in tow, and I am exicted to say that it worked beautifully. It was stuffed full of goods and Afton (my sister) carried it all the way home and up our three flights of stairs with no complaints.

p.s. Thank you to my best friend and beautiful model, Savannah. You look amazing at 8 am and just after rolling out of bed!!

HAYLIE, I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE THESE BAGS!! YOU NEED TO CONTACT ONE OF THE MAJOR GROCERY CHAINS TO SELL THESE BAGS FOR YOU AND THEY COULD THEN OFFER DISCOUNTS WHEN PEOPLE USE THEM INSTEAD OF THOSE AWFUL PLASTIC BAGS. MAYBE $1-$3 OR A % OF THE AMOUNT SPENT! LET ME KNOW WHEN I CAN BUY ONE OF EACH DESIGN!! :)

My darling Haylie! This is Amy from the Mutation Craft Fair (and AtHome groupie!).

First of all, congratulations on your graduation, I wish you everything your darling heart desires! Please let us know where you will end up next!

Second, congrats on the Design Sponge mention (that's how I found your blog!).

Third, everything you make is awesome! I am so glad I had you on Mutation. You have no idea how giddy I am to have found over these corners of the Internet. Good luck with everything.

Love!
